Needle Threaders

Needle Threaders

with instructor Steve Butler

What is it? – Few sewing tools are more useful and necessary than hand sewing needles. Specific needle styles have evolved into virtually every genre of sewing specialty including general sewing, appliqué, embroidery, ribbon embroidery, quilting, upholstery, tapestry, basting, beading, darning, tailoring, etc. Additionally, and regardless of style, each needle is manufactured with great attention ensuring it is produced with a point that ensures precise fabric insertion, a flawlessly smooth shaft that pulls effortlessly through layers of fabric and a smooth eye that securely holds the thread  without damage. But there is one complication. All of this is for naught if we can’t get our thread through those necessarily small needle eyes. And make no mistake about it, the eyes of the needles are a small as possible to ensure that all important smooth pull through our fabric. The unaided attempt to direct any thread through one of those small eyes can be a particularly frustrating experience. Not good. That’s why Clover has designed various styles of needle threaders to meet any specific requirements you may encounter in your creative endeavor. After all, threading a needle should be the most automatic of any of our sewing functions, not the most distracting.

What does it do? – For all types of sewing from fashion to quilting to heirloom to home décor to crafts we eventually end up using a hand sewing needle of some type and essentially to that end the requirement to thread that needle. Depending on the needle we select and the thread we intend to use there is a variety of needle threader styles available. One of which should meet your particular needs.

Threader with Cutter “Petit Cut” – This model comes packaged with two pieces. The fine wire loops on each allows us to thread even the finest needle eyes. As an added benefit, the opposite end of each has a convenient thread cutter to put a fresh edge on our thread should we want to.

Quilt Needle Threader – This is an attractive antique gold threader that is easy to manipulate and has a “backed” wire threader that makes the threading wire easy to see and manipulate

Double Needle Threader – The “double” has a different size threader on either end to allow us to thread both large and small needle sizes with either heavier or finer threads.

Needle Threader – The basic Needle Threader is a two pack of standard needle threaders that work on the most commonly used needle sizes and styles.

Embroidery Threader – This model sports a unique “flat” tip to help us pull heavier threads and yarns through the eye of the needle. Embroidery Needle Threader – The Embroidery Needle Threader is an extra long needle threader designed specifically for threading Clover’s Embroidery Stitching Tool.

How do I share it? – This has to be an education process. Most people have just “made do” with whatever needle threader was available because they were unaware of the different styles that are actually available. Mention the styles available during classes. A story board showing the different styles available and their specific applications will also paint the picture. As we stated at the outset, everyone uses hand sewing needles. Everyone will want the threader most appropriate for their needs too. We just need to introduce them to the various styles available.
