What is it?
Embroidery hoops are familiar to all of us who do hand embroidery, applique or cross stitch. They’ve been around forever, are made from any number of materials from wood, plastic or even PVC pipe. They are also available in a wide assortment of sizes, each fitted with a separate mechanical device needed to adjust fabric tension. When we’re doing hand embroidery or applique, having our fabric held smooth and taut has definite advantages. The evenly tensioned fabric ensures neat stitches and consistent spaces between stitches. All good. They are very useful and definitely have their place. However, on occasion, they also don’t have their place. When our creative designs are destined for project spaces with limited material access, traditional hoops with their standard features become bulky, clumsy and often unusable. So, what to do? How can we ensure that we have a stable fabric platform to apply our stitches to when space is limited? Clover’s Stitch Dome is the obvious answer.
What does it do?
Clover’s Stitch Dome is a tool designed to keep pace with your creative imagination. The device itself is made of lightweight and exceptionally smooth steel formed into a slightly flattened dome shape. The Stitch Dome is approximately 3 ½ inches in diameter and ¾ inch tall. This diminutive size allows it to be easily inserted into those tight spaces found in pockets, sleeves, lapels, hats, scarves, bags, purses, socks and so many other creatively available places where a traditional hoop would just never work. The Stitch Dome is provided with a tightening rubber strap that fits around the edges of the dome, holding our fabric evenly and securely in place. It does this with the very fine to very heavy fabrics and all without the bulky traditional hoop sizes and mechanisms. Once the dome is fitted with our fabric and the rubber retaining strap, we are presented with an incredibly comfortable device to both hold and manipulate as we apply our decorative stitches. As needed, the strap can easily be removed and the Dome re-centered to accommodate expanding design features. The Dome is a truly useful stitching tool.
